Ian McKeithen enters his third year as Head Coach for Men's Basketball at Benedictine University at Springfield. McKeithen is coming off a 15-17 season with a 2013-14 Basketball squad that made a historic run in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) tournament, knocking off Lyon College (Ark.) to advance to the tournament semifinals. The Bulldogs fell to Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) 118-86, but not without notice. Senior Justin Smith earned 2013-14 AMC Defensive Player of the Year and finished in the Top 5 in the NAIA in total steals (97) and steals per game (3.03). Thomas Dillard earned second team All-AMC honors and will bolster the Bulldog perimeter offense this year. 

In his inaugural season, the Bulldogs finished 6-23, with a 3-13 record in the AMC. BenU Springfield put one student-athlete on the AMC All-Conference list in Justin Smith. The Bulldogs were one win away from the AMC Tournament, but fell in play-in game action to Hannibal-LaGrange.

McKeithen came to BenU Springfield after a short stint as the Assistant Coach at Iowa Wesleyan College working under Alan Magnani. IWC was ranked #15 in the NAIA DII pre-season poll in the 2011-12 season. McKeithen was hired at IWC after spending the previous year as an Assistant Coach at Dakota State University (Madison, SD) Returning to his alma mater, he helped the Trojans to a 15-14 mark, their first winning record since 1992-93.

This was McKeithen's second tour as an assistant at DSU, as he was also a student assistant coach for two years after his collegiate career at DSU from 2003-05. After transferring to Dakota State from Imperial Valley CC (Calif.), he averaged eight points and three rebounds as a junior and 11.6 points and four rebounds per game as a senior. McKeithen finished as the second leading scorer on his team that year. 

McKeithen started his professional career as a basketball operations intern for the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2007-08. His primary roles included helpinng with various player personnel, video and team projects, and front office staff assistance during the 2008 NBA Draft. 

Moving on from the Timberwolves, McKeithen was hired as the graduate assistant at Augustana College (S.D.). In his two years with the Vikings, the team team went 45-17 with two straight Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Divsion II National Tournament. 

McKeithen earned his Bachelor's degree from DSU in Business Management in 2007. He finished his Master's Degree in Teaching at Augustana College and is currently working towards his Ph.D. in Athletic Administration. Originally from Escondido, Calif., McKeithen now resides in Springfield, Ill.
