Steve Torricelli

Steve Torricelli enters his 14th season as the head baseball coach at Benedictine University at Springfield. Torricelli is 359-291-1 in his 13 previous seasons, 11 spent as the head coach of Springfield College of Illinois before transferring to a four-year institution under Benedictine University. 

His 2012 team finished 31-25, 12-11 in the American Midwest Conference, earning them a spot in the AMC Tournament. The Bulldogs ended the year with three first-team all-conference selections, six honorable-mention selections, a gold-glove outfielder in Trevor McGrath, and 19 academic all-conference performers in the American Midwest Conference. 

Prior to his first season in the NAIA, Torricelli had numerous success at the NJCAA level including MWAC Coach of Year (2003, 2008) and Region Coach of the Year (2007, 2008) as well as one Major League Baseball draft selection in Casey Erickson. Torricelli's teams won back-to-back region titles in 2007 and 2008, finishing ranked in the Top 10 in the nation both years, athletically and academically. 

Torricelli, a Springfield, Ill. native, grew up around Springfield baseball. Graduating from Eastern Illinois University, Torricelli went on to spend 5 seasons at Taylorville High School, before making the collegiate transition to SCI and then BenU Springfield.

Torricelli and his wife, Gina, and their two daughters, Olivia and Lauren, reside in Chatham, Ill.
