KINGSPORT, Tenn. - No. 5 seed Benedictine-Springfield (Ill.) lives to play another game as it eliminated No. 2 seed Point Park (Pa.) 4-1 Friday in the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round - Kingsport Bracket.

Benedictine-Springfield (24-24 overall) moves on to face No. 4 seed Taylor (Ind.) in another elimination game today at 6 p.m. These two squads met in the bracket's opening game on Thursday with Taylor winning 10-2.

With the loss, Point Park finishes the season 39-16 on the year.

The tournament is being held at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn.

Benedictine-Springfield took control of the game early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Tommy Jennings, David Maziarz and Jared Clay each drove in a run in the first to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.

From there, Jordan Pesko took care of the rest as he went the distance to collect his eighth win of the season. The Benedictine-Springfield hurler allowed one earned run on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts to up his mark to 8-2.

Manny Perdomo suffered the loss for the Pioneers, last 5 1/3 innings and surrendering four runs, three earned, on eight hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. He ends the season 6-3.
