Trolls Edge BenU Springfield 76-70

Saturday, November 01, 2014

Springfield, Ill.~ Down 12 with 12:04 to play, the Bulldogs clawed back to take the lead with minutes to play, but could not seal the victory as Trinity Christian College (Ill.) squeaked out the six-point lead in the second game of the season on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs outshot the Trolls from the floor, .449 to .433, but the Trolls would take their edge from the line, shooting 82-percent from the charity stripe. Junior Darius Stallworth made his debut in a Bulldog uniform in style, dropping 21 points. Stephan Shepherd put up another double-digit game with 19 points and two blocks. Wynn Adams picked up on the defensive end, recording three steals.

Coach Ian McKeithen was pleased with the effort, but realized that the season is young and there is still work to do. From @CoachMcKeithen, "Tough loss today. Had a good effort getting back in the game on the road but effort doesn't always equal wins. Need to get back to work!"

The Bulldogs return to the Windy City on Wednesday, November 5th, to take on Roosevelt University (Ill.) at 7:30 p.m. The Lakers narrowly escaped defeat from the Bulldogs last season, earning the 70-65 victory.
