Bulldogs Outlast Owls In Second Meeting

Sunday, January 25, 2015

Springfield, Ill.~ Venegence was taken on the home court of the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon as BenU Springfield Men's Basketball team evened the season series with the Owls of William Woods University by a narrow margin of 54-51.

The Bulldogs mounted their comeback late in the second half as it seemed the Owls would pull away early to start the second period. The Bulldogs were 7 for 10 from the line in the second half, those free throws coming at the key moments to slow down the Owls' scoring momentum. Juniors Thomas Dillard and Darius Stallworth ended the night with 11 points each, both coming up big at the charity stripe. Dillard was a perfect 5 for 5 with Stallworth just shy going 3 for 4. Senior Myles Harvell added two three's to his total of 10 points on the night to help down WWU. On the defensive end, Clavontae Brown added five steals while Stephan Shepherd cleaned up at the boards (9 rebounds) to help trip up the Owls' offense.

The Bulldogs go into a small 'bye-week' as they will not see the floor again until next Saturday, January 31st. BenU Springfield will host the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange at Gold's Gym Springfield at 4 p.m. CST. Game coverage can be found on the Bulldog Sports Network.
