Springfield, Ill.~ The wind was certainly a factor in the Friday afternoon doubleheader between the Bulldogs and Lyon College Scots (Ark.) as both teams put the ball in play to combine for 48 hits and 41 runs, each team taking home an AMC victory.
BenU 11, Lyon College 2 (6 Innings)
Senior Kerri Beasley's lucky number must've been three in game one, going 3 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs scored in the 11-2 domination over the Scots. Beasley launched her first home run of the season and was just shy of the cycle, recording a single and double in her next two at-bats. Monica DeVault was close behind (2-3, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored), recording her third HR on the year. Sarah Worster and Brittany Hembrough each went 2 for 3 on the day. BenU Springfield recorded runs in every inning to take game one.
Katie Stapleton picked up the victory, going the full five from the mound, giving up two runs on seven hits and sitting down six Scots.
Lyon College 15, BenU 13
The middle of the Bulldog lineup stayed hot through the second game on the day, but the bats of Lyon College proved a little hotter. Both teams traded the lead in the first two innings, before the Scots put up a six-run third inning and held BenU scoreless through the fifth. The Bulldogs made one last push, pulling within one in the sixth, the Scots edging the Bulldogs by two.
Five Bulldogs recorded doubles in the loss, with Miranda Langen poking her first home run of the year. Stapleton recorded the loss in game two, with six runs on six hits in one inning of work.
The Bulldogs' game versus Williams Baptist College for Saturday, April 5, has been postponed. No rescheduled date has been set. BenU Springfield rounds out the weekend with a doubleheader versus NCAA Division II Oakland City University (Ind.) on Sunday, Apri 6, slated for 12:00 p.m.
