Eagles Slip Past Bulldogs In Final AMC Twinbill

Springfield, Ill.~ In their last American Midwest Conference series before the opening weekend of the tournament, the Bulldogs fell short at the hands of the Eagles of Williams Baptist College (Ark.) to finish regular season play.

WBC 9, BenU 0 (Game 1)

Dakota Swingler, Sarah Worster, and Gabby Oldani all recorded two hits in the first game, but could not push a run across the plate, stranding eight on the base paths in the shutout. Katie Stapleton grabbed the final hit for the Bulldogs, a double in the gap. Abbie Watton suffered the loss, tossing two and a third with five runs on seven hits with no strikeouts.

WBC 2, BenU 0 (Game 2)

The Eagles held the Bulldogs to just four hits in the second shutout of the day, moving the Bulldogs to 24-25 on the year (9-13 AMC). Katie Stapleton banged out her second double of the day, but once again, the Bulldogs stranded baserunners (4).  Katie Stapleton went the distance in an impressive outing from the mound, but a couple key hits by the Eagles allowed WBC to capitalize for the win. Stapleton gave up two runs (1 earned) in seven hits with six strikeouts. 

The Bulldogs finalize their regular season home schedule and honor four Bulldog student-athletes tomorrow, April 23rd, for Senior Day. The Bulldogs host Eureka College (Ill.) in a 3:00/5:00 p.m. doubleheader.
