Springfield, Ill.~ Not only was it great weather, but two great victories were earned and four seniors celebrated on Wednesday afternoon as the Bulldogs downed Eureka College (Ill.) in their last regular season doubleheader of the year.

BenU 9, Eureka College 2 (Game 1)

The Bulldogs hit a season-high four homeruns and tallied nine more hits to take game one. Miranda Langen, Shannon Stuart, Monica DeVault, and Jennifer Jennings recorded the HRs, driving in seven of the nine total runs. Stuart was three for four with the HR and double. Kerri Beasley had two doubles of her own (2-3, RBI)

Katie Stapleton was dominant from the mound, tossing her way to her 14th win of the season, giving up two runs on four hits and hurling 10 strikeouts.

BenU 7, Eureka College 4 (Game 2)

In fitting fashion, senior Madeline Jiardina singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning to complete the sweep, knocking her second hit of the game through the hole to score Stapleton. Eureka College tied the game at three-all and went up one in the fifth, but after DeVault wasn't done hitting homeruns, launching her second of the day on a 2-2 count to straight away left-center. Stapleton, Jiardina (2-3, RBI), and Dakota Swingler (3-4, 4 RBIs) all recorded doubles in the win.

Kelley McMahon went the distance for the second time in just as many appearances, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out one.

The Bulldogs will make their very first appearance in the American Midwest Conference tournament on Friday, April 25th as the No. 7 seed. They will take on the No. 2 seed Columbia College (Mo.) on the Cougars' home turf in a best of three series, starting at 2:00 p.m. Two games will be played on Friday with the if-needed elimination game set for Saturday (April 26th). In their last meeting, the Cougars took both games from BenU Springfield at Padre Canella Field. Live stats will be available at columbiacougars.com.
